Meet your MX, is the website that promotes the new tv show, sci-fi police drama, Almost Human. An interactive website that presents the features of the androids.
Almost Human, the “love child” of J.J.Abrams and J.H. Wyman, is a sci-fi police drama, set in the year 2048, that puts man and machine together in a war on crime.
To promote the tv show, Watson/DG was approach to build the website. They created an in-world field manual familiarizing new police cadets with their android partners, this way they would introduce the extensive features of the droids and showcasing the programs central talent. It is an interesting way to go, as the focus goes to the artificial entities of the show, then the show itself (x-men did the same thing with the sentinels, building the Trask Industries Website).
Meet your MX website is built on a HTML 5 (canvas), with well implemented parallax scrolling that creates a smooth navigation, a clean design, consistent with the futuristic theme. This is interactive storytelling at its best! This is how all movie websites should look and feel. They should tell a story, to create an experience that gives value, not that cuts value. And do not get me wrong, this website is amazing, but not because of the trendy parallax effect , it’s amazing because of the way it got implemented and how the content is presented, catered to create an actual experience.
The neutral nature of the color gray, and as the background color, makes the content jump in your face.
Even with the parallax scrolling, the animated gifs bring extra focus on each feature of the android.
Something interesting, the way they implemented the social sharing is a plus, as it doesn’t brake the visual pattern.
Enough with looking at pictures and reading my design babbling, just go and Meet your MX.
